Sale of Chametz

  • Submission deadline: April 3, 2020

  • One of the most important Mitzvot of Pesach is the eating of the Matzah commemorating the "poor man bread" that our ancestors ate when leaving Egypt. The Zohar teaches us that Matzah on Pesach is “food of faith” as well as “food of health”. Although this Mitzvah can be performed by eating any Kosher for Pesach Matzah, this cherished Mitzvah is best done at the Seder by eating handmade “Matzot Shmurot”.
Our best wishes to you and your family for a Kosher, Joyous, and stress free Passover!

On Passover in addition to not eating Chametz, (Bread, cereal, pasta, beer, vodka etc.) we are also not allowed to possess Chametz. We have three alternatives: Eat it, burn (destroy) it, or sell it. By filling out the form below you are giving us the authority to act as your agent in selling your Chametz.

Just fill in the form and send it to us by Friday, April 3rd. (Fax: 270-638-4433. Email:
rabbi@chabadofmaine.com.) Alternatively, you can use our online form at chabadofmaine.com.

Then put away your Chametz in a closet, cabinet etc. for the duration of Pesach. After Pesach we will buy it back for you and you will be free to eat it.

  • I/We hereby authorize Rabbi Moshe Wilansky to dispose of all chametz that may be in my (our) possession wherever it may be - at home, at my (our) place of work, or elsewhere- in accordance with the requirements of Jewish Law as incorporated in the special contract for the sale of chametz.
