The barbaric terror attack on our brothers and sisters in Israel on what was supposed to be the most joyous day on the Jewish calendar, is nothing short of heart-wrenching. We all know people in Israel and some of us even know people that have been murdered or kidnapped. Every Jew’s heart is in Israel today, as an attack on one Jew is an attack on every single Jewish person around the world. It doesn’t matter where you stand politically or even religiously, we are one family and we cannot remain silent as our brothers and sisters are suffering. In this critical time, we all ask: What can I do for Israel? How can I help my brothers and sisters in the Holy Land? There is much we can do, no matter how distant we are geographically. Remember, we are all connected! The Jewish people is often compared to a single body; when one part becomes healthier, the entire body benefits. By performing a Mitzvah, we uplift our brethren in Israel. The Torah teaches us (and history has repeatedly demonstrated to us) that the physical protection of each one of us — and, indeed, our very collective destiny! — is intrinsically connected to our spiritual activism. When we pray or dedicate a good deed to our brothers and sisters in Israel, we create a spiritual defense shield for them that will help them through difficult and dangerous times. In that vein, we’ve gathered some of the directives that the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson of righteous memory, shared with the Jewish people worldwide during similar events; positive action we can each take for Israel and its people. I urge you to adopt a regular Mitzvah in honor of the Israeli people. For men, if you haven't yet, perhaps start donning Tefillin regularly—even if it's just weekly. For women, consider lighting the Shabbat and holiday candles. For all, maybe dedicate 10 minutes daily for Torah study or put a coin in the Tzedakah box every day, except on Shabbat and holidays. See more examples below. If you are not sure which Mitzvah to choose, please reach out via email or phone at 207-650-1783, and I will be happy to help. Add your Mitzvah to show your support: https://onemitzvah.org/israel There are ways to help physically as well. Here are some organizations you can donate directly to to help our dear brothers and sisters in Israel: United Hatzalah is one of the major organizations in Israel that is helping on the medical side for both soldiers and civilians who have been wounded. They are using up a lot more resources than they usually need to and need money in order to replenish medical equipment that is being used up daily: https://israelrescue.org/donate/ Supplies for the IDF as all reserves are called up: https://shieldtheidf.com/en Colel Chabad is part of Israel's emergency response team. They are your ambassador on the front line. They deliver tens of thousands of cooked meals to frightened families in shelters. From the first hours, all the wheels were moving, turning out meals as fast as possible. They are also working with Hazinor on hygiene packages for both military and civilians.
